If only we could look into a crystal ball to get a glimpse of future beauty trends, we might not have plucked our eyebrows into oblivion back in the 90s. Still, you live and learn – right?

And while that crystal ball remains stubbornly out of reach, we do have the next best thing: the inside word from the trendsetters and tastemakers who help shape the future of beauty and wellness.

According to the newly released Wellness and Aesthetics Trends Report 2030 by Australasia’s leading beauty and wellness brand, Jeunesse Australasia, these are the four major trends the experts are tipping will set the agenda for the next decade:

Skincare gets minimal

A couple of years ago, the Korean 10-step beauty routine was all the rage. Now, it feels exhausting to even think about it. So, it’s no surprise that we’re gravitating towards a more minimal approach to caring for our complexions.

Dubbed ‘skinimalism’, this less-is-more approach to skincare is all about using fewer products and prioritising those that are formulated by scientists to deliver serious results.

The new sustainability

Making sustainable choices with your health and beauty isn’t only about choosing products that contain natural ingredients. In fact, science can be a powerful ally in the quest for cleaner, greener solutions.

How so? Firstly, by synthesising raw materials in a lab, companies are able to source safe and efficacious ingredients in a smarter and more sustainable way.

Second, savvy brands are turning their hands to upcycling, or using the ‘waste’ from one industry to create beautiful products. A simple example of this is using leftover coffee grounds to make a body scrub, but the concept is also being tested in skincare, haircare and even perfume. Watch this space!

A better way to shop

If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that we no longer need to enter a physical store to purchase beauty and wellbeing products – but that doesn’t mean we won’t ever want to. The in-store experience can be truly magical, but shopping in the comfort of your own home can be even better.

There are a few things you can do to give your home shopping experience a glow-up. If you enjoy getting expert advice from a sales adviser, look for a direct selling company such as Jeunesse Global that makes premium products and find a distributor that you can connect with. They will become your trusted adviser to help you select the right mix of products to give you the results you’re looking for. (Side note: becoming a distributor for a direct-selling company you believe in is an excellent way to save money on your own products as well as make extra cash on the side.)

Prefer to shop alone? Look out for digital technologies that help you pinpoint exactly what you need, whether it’s an app that allows you to virtually ‘try-on’ a makeup look, or an online colour-match service that guides you to the correct shade of foundation.

A routine to recuperate

Let’s be honest: the past 18 months have taken a mental and physical toll on most of us. We’ve all done our best to keep our heads above water and simply survive, but now it’s time to lay the foundations to thrive.

A renewed focus on recuperation means prioritising the way we feel just as much as the way we look. This trend has the potential to weave its way through every facet of our beauty and wellness routines to restore balance to our bodies. It’s about slowing down and focusing on what’s essential to support our bodies and minds – a balanced diet that’s full of wholefoods, a sensible lifestyle that allows opportunities for exercise and mindfulness, and supplementation when indicated by a healthcare practitioner to replace depleted reserves.

  • I must say I am not one for following trends really. I do much prefer to go into a physical store when buying skin care products so that I can try them first. I like certain smells in my skin care and that is one thing that can’t be achieved online!

  • Ha ha ha! I laughed so much at the mentioning of eye brows! I think mine are still struggling to grow back from the abuse they suffered trying to make them super skinny! It’s amazing how the trend of EYEBROWS has been changing! Now they are supposed to be big and full! I just can’t get it right!

  • The minimal approach is definitely for me. Once a month I might go a bit further, steaming, exfoilating etc but generally not. Just a daily routine. Fads and trends change all the time and I think that once you find settle into what is for you it is all sorted.

  • I agree that sustainability has become more important to a lot of people, and I think this is only going to increase – more people, and caring more deeply about ti. I like how many ranges now offer refills in order to reduce waste. I’m also looking to reduce my skin care products so I use fewer.

  • I am excited for skin minimalist products. I have started to look into Korean skincare (I am very late on the band wagon) but become very overwhelmed with all the products and steps. Looking forward to seeing a 3 step morning and night plus an overnight moisture mask in the future.

  • An interesting read thats for sure! I used to be a simple less is more girl like this article suggests. But i find that im changing my products as i age to keep up with how my skin is changing as well! What worked for me years ago isnt necessarily the best product for my skin today .

  • I definitely agree that the past few years has changed everything! I used to be very into my skin care but with Covid and the kids being home and all the stress it sort of wasn’t important. I am now trying to return to a place where I can make time to take care of myself again and minimalist is the way to go!

  • I’m trying to reduce what I buy whether it be skincare or clothing. I seem to have cupboards overflowing with skincare and clothes but still can’t find anything to wear. I would like to be more minimalistic but need to declutter my house first before I can figure out what I can keep and what I can get rid of.

  • I agree with going minimal for skincare. I’ve noticed some brands are combining serums to be an all-in-one rather than layering which is a time saver and less clutter in the bathroom is definitely a good thing! Sustainabillity is also an excellent initiative and I’m loving seeing refill pouches and the new dishwashing and clothes washing sheets are fantastic. Hopefully we will see sheets or pods that can emulsify in water, so body wash pumps can be reused.

  • I agree with the sentiments about recuperation. It’s important to focus on what makes each of us happy, even if it is not what every one else is doing.

  • I have always just done my own thing. I am not good at following trends and tend to walk my own way. I love the use of colour and love my eye shadow shades. I would happily use a site that would help me with foundation shades but other than that im good thanks.

  • I am all for the minimalist trend. I prefer not to use any night creams or serums just to give my skin a chance to breathe.

  • I love to splurge but also love to get a bargain and the bets price. I find buying direct from the brands can give me access to some amazing sales and often free samples and bonus products! Definitely gets the dopamine hit happening! Pairing these luxe treats with exercise and good foods is how I find my wellness

  • I love buying direct from the brand. Signing up to their email list I can get great deals and earn rewards in their tier lists. I also love getting the refills that can go into the original, cute packaging. Also, you got me with the over plucking brows. If you were a teen in the early 00’s you probably did it hah
