Beauty treatments often have a defining ‘trust the process’ moment. And for Pauline Bou Zeidan it came as she was dying her blonde hair at home. Gripped by panic as her hair turned darker and darker, she shared the drama, and captured the attention of millions on social media.

Pauline had been gifted Clairol Nice’n Easy 8A Medium Ash Blonde through Beauty Truth to review, and decided to document the experience on TikTok. What she didn’t expect was for one of her videos to go viral, leaving millions just as anxious as she was to see how the colour would turn out.

In her first video, Pauline introduced followers to a familiar ritual. “It’s that time again,” she wrote, joking that everyone knows it’s at-home hair dye day when THAT shirt comes out.

She explained that she’d been gifted Clairol Nice’n Easy 8A Medium Ash Blonde from Beauty Truth and promised to share the results.

And then came part two.

“What have I done?!”

In her second video, Pauline became increasingly concerned at the dark colour of the dye while it was processing.

“Well … this could be the end of my at-home hair dye journey,” she joked.

“Because at this point, I genuinely don’t know if I have completely messed up my hair. What have I done?!”

The video took off, with millions of views and a comment section full of people who suddenly had a LOT to say about box hair dye.

Commenters shared their own experiences of DIY hair colour gone wrong, with one recalling wanting blonde hair but ending up with lavender purple. Others described choosing brown and getting jet black, or ending up with unexpected blue, red and burgundy tones.

Some suggested Pauline needed to check the shade on the box against the tube inside, while others reassured her that hair dye can look much darker during processing.

One commenter pointed out that colour oxidises and that the final result might not look nearly as dark as it did at that moment.

Pauline had two choices. She committed.

By the time Pauline shared her next video, the suspense was building.

While she was still mildly freaking out, stopping wasn’t an option.

“At this point I had two choices… stop while I was ahead or fully commit to whatever was happening on my head,” she wrote.

“Obviously, I committed.”

Pauline admitted she honestly wasn’t sure whether that had been a good decision, directing followers to Part 3 to see the final result.

The final reveal

After three videos, more than eight million views and thousands of comments, Pauline finally revealed the result.

And it turns out the biggest victim of the entire situation may have been everyone’s blood pressure.

“The hair survived. Pauline survived. The brassiness, unfortunately, also survived,” she wrote.

However, not everyone agreed with her verdict of brassiness.

“Wait it looks cute tho idk if anything changed but it’s so glossy 🥰,” Maria commented.

“It looks gorgeous,” wrote another.
