Hello!

I didn’t grow up with acne, just a few pimples here and there. Sadly my sons both have acne and I’ve been trying to help them get it under control. Any tips on products or what worked for you?
I’ve bought them Paula’s choice products because they had great reviews but I’m not a fan of the chemicals in them. I know retinol is an option. Any advice is appreciated

  • I would start with – do they have hair covering their face? This is the first thing as it can trap grease. A consistent routine with washing their face with cleanser and moisturising after is also helpful.

  • Thanks for all the advice. It really helps! I agree! I feel like we find a product that works and then a few weeks later it goes down hill. I will give benzac a try and see if it helps. If it doesn’t then we might try a Dr appointment or dermatologist.

  • I would start with diet and sleep and then ensuring they are cleansing their face day and night with a cleanser. You want products that are going to work for their age and not be too harsh that it causes havoc on their skin barrier

  • I used Benzac cream as a teen and wish they had the entire range that’s now available back then. It is pretty full on stuff though. And keep your good towels away! I caused my mum endless stress over bleach spots.

  • My youngest daughter had/has acne issues. When she was in her teens we tried everything. We would find a skincare range that would work wonderfully and then after a few weeks it all went down hill again. Long story short she is not in her 20’s and it has been discovered that she has a major hormone imbalance. She is now seeing a specialist and is on medication to hopefully correct this. So if all else fails try a trip to the local GP for help.

Make sure they are changing their pillowcases often as well as their towels and face washers.
