Hello!

How do you apply foundation and why? Sorry if it’s been asked before but I’m trying to figure out the best way to apply my foundation.
I usually use my fingers because I feel like a brush is too heavy? I have a sponge but haven’t learnt how to use it yet. Doesn’t it just absorb all the product? It feels like a waste? I’ve heard you wet them first? Why?
Thanks for your help 🙂

  • I’ve tried brushes and sponges but the best technique for me is using my finger.

  • I invested in a good quality make up application brush set and the brushes are easy to use when applying make up. The brushes give a good overall coverage to the my face. It really is important to keep the brushes clean. The key to using brushes is to use a little make up and not over do it.

  • At times ive used a wet sponge but find that it absorbs so much of the product that im essentially just wasting more foundation! Lately ive just been using a brush to get it on. A little can go a long way and easier than using my fingers for a more even finish

  • I also use my fingers to apply my foundation and then I use a wet sponge to blend out the edges. I do find it can make it harder to build coverage evenly with my fingers and I try not to rub too much. I also find the brushes can make my foundation look cakey.

  • I used to feel awkward about applying makeup with my finger tips. Then I read it’s how Pat McGrath does it. Who can argue with such makeup greatness.

  • You wet the sponge first so that it is full so to speak and doesnt soak up the foundation. Sponges are used to soak up liquid so if you wet it first and then ring it out it will have less room so will soak up less of the foundation. Hope that makes sense,
I mostly use my fingers also as they dont soak up product at all and I feel it goves me better control.
Just do you. What ever you find to work for you is ok.
