Hello!

My 16-year-old son is having regular acne breakouts, so I’m searching for something easy for him to use. He’s not one for a ten step routine, more just something he can use in the shower.

  • My teenagers use CereVe and La Roche Posay. They have eczema and mild acne and haven’t had any irritations using both these brands. Sometimes you can pick up samples in pharmacies to take home and give them a go. Good luck.

  • Just having a consistent routine can help clear skin. A gentle foaming cleanser, a light moisturiser, and a spot cream. Moo Goo make great gentle formulas. For something a little stronger for occasional use, Benzac now have a full line of products (not great for sensitive skin though)

  • I really think it is worth seeing a doctor or dermatologist to get help and advice. Sometimes it can be related to diet.

  • I found the product- it’s called revolution multi acid peeling solution. I’m not sure if it’s still available but I hope this helps!

  • We’ve tried so many products for my son in the same boat and was about to consider medication (which I was hoping to avoid) but recently found a product I had in my cupboard for me helped him. It’s a red acid type product which exfoliates the top layer of your skin. I don’t believe they sell it anymore in the brand we have but the ordinary sells one and so do a few other companies. It’s been helping his skin and we only use it once a week.

  • Could it be hormonal as well? Definitely worth seeing a gp to see and start with basics!

  • I had to visit a dermatologist for a prescription. Roaccutane was the brand. Once a day pills. Cleared my acne right up

  • If the breakouts are really bad it might be worth mentioning it to your GP next time he visits as depending on the cause the GP might be able to give him something to help
Apart from skincare products make sure that you are changing his pillowcase, face washer and towels often as the bacteria love to build up in these things.

  • My teen boys use Azclear foaming cleanser in the shower. Works great and doesn’t dry out the skin. They get the occasional pimple but no acne. I’ve heard that products that contain azelaic acid are really good.

  • I use Khiel’s for my skin and my daughters skin and i love their products. Although i have never tried the male products I am sure they are just as fabulous as the ones i use. They offer samples too and can be found at Sophera where they can give you sample to try first.
