Take one look at your favourite celebrity or the most influential social media influencers and you will notice that they appear to have perfect, healthy, and glossy-looking hair.

Of course, most celebrities have professional stylists to ensure their hair, and they, look perfect at all times.

But, you don’t need a professional to get your hair healthy and glossy-looking! All you need is the following five tips:

Choose your shampoo wisely

The most important part of creating healthy and shiny hair is to use the right product. That means ignoring the cheaper brands that rely on harsh chemicals to clean your hair. Instead, choose something from the nak hair care range.

You’ll find these products use natural ingredients that don’t strip the oil from your scalp. Considering this natural oil coats your hair and protects it, you don’t want to destroy it. The oil helps your hair to look shiny and prevents it from dehydrating. Don’t forget that dehydrated hair is dull, dry and brittle. That is the opposite of what you are after.

Brush your hair properly

Wet hair is more easily damaged than dry hair, especially when brushing. This is because it is heavier and therefore more likely to place strain on the follicles. Of course, t is best to brush and style it when it is wet.

You, therefore, need to brush it properly. This means starting at the bottom and brushing small sections at a time. Hold the hair just above where you are brushing. This will prevent it from pulling on the scalp and possibly damaging the follicles.

Eat a balanced diet

You may not realize it but your hair is primarily protein and water. That means you need a balanced diet with plenty of protein and water. Eating properly can help your hair look healthy and shiny.

The good news is that eating healthily offers benefits to your entire body, not just your hair! Eggs are a good source of protein and you can even put egg yolks directly on your hair to help it get the nutrition it needs.

Use anti-frizz

If you are heading out for a special occasion or know that your hair dislikes humidity then an anti-frizz spray is a great idea. Simply lightly spray your hair before you head to that special occasion. You’ll find your hair looks and feels fantastic. However, you must remember to wash it out properly afterwards. Anti-frizz products tend to be heavy, increasing the risk of hair damage

Heat protection sprays are essential

Finally, if you use heat styling tools as most people do, then make sure you use a heat protection spray. This can prevent the hair strands from being dried out and dehydrating while you style them.

A good heat protection spray can also help to ensure that your hair is protected from the sun and the damage that its rays can do. You should apply it in the morning to protect your hair and keep it looking healthy.

What are your top tips for healthy and glossy-looking hair? Tell us in the comments below.

  • It’s hard to have that beautiful hair. If I have learned one thing it is avoiding colour treatments and using styling tools. Both of those will dry and damage the hair and cause split ends. As to shampoo, I generally use supermarket brands, but do get ones that are of a bit better quality as my hair tends to get oily on cheaper stuff.

  • When I read about the wet hair brushing, I thought, “that’s me!” No wonder I lose so much hair. Now I know to brush from the bottom in small sections. May take longer but at least I’ll salvage my precious hair. And it’s so true about what you eat, beauty really does start from within.

  • I would absolutely love if the article had some recommended products. It can be so hard filtering through the fodder to find great products with a formula that actually delivers. I’ve been trying a few different heat sprays lately to find what works best for me and doesn’t leave me with a heavy feeling.

  • I also remember doing so many crazy things to my hair in highschool to try and get shiny hair. Anything from putting egg in my hair through to apple cider vinegar and coconut oil. None worked for me or at least not that I noticed! Thank goodness there are so many great products available now

  • My daughter just recently purchased one of those garnier food for your hair products. It’s a liquid you let soak into your hair and it is supposed to leave you with shiny hair.
She has dark hair and it did quite well if you’re looking for a nice cheap way to get some shine. I tried it on my lighter hair and didnt really notice much of a difference but lighter hair does have less shine.

  • I dream of those days when I had longer, shiny hair. Now that it is going grey it is coarser and definitely not as shiny & soft. I still try to take good care of it. We’ve taken up swimming in our retirement and I have to wash my hair each day that I go so this doesn’t help.

  • My hair definitely needs a change up to get more protein and hydration. I am going to have a look at the Nak range. We have already started eating more eggs so winning on that one but I do not think I will be putting them direct on my scalp anytime soon

  • I try not to use too many heating tools on my hair as i already colour it on the regular. This helps me avoid breakage and having my hair feel dry. I swear by using a hair treatment on the regular to really get that extra moisture boost than regular conditioning doesnt do.

  • Eating a healthy diet is essential for all areas of your body so it is no surprise that it helps promote healthy hair too. I also only buy good quality shampoo and conditioners and not the cheap stuff from the supermarket as these can have so many chemicals in them which can ruin your hair.

  • I try to eat a healthy diet and use quality hair products . I often give myself DIY hair masks or treatments at home and get my hair trimmed regularly. I also take a hair skin and nail supplement and use products for hair growth to try and improve the condition of my hair.

  • There are so many shampoos out there to choose from. I make sure I use a conditioner after shampooing. I have short hair and usually let it air dry unless I have a special event to attend. Not using a hairy dryer or a hair straightener doesn’t dry out hair.

  • There are soooo many hair care products around, it can be expensive trial and error to find the right ones. I like to alternate between using purple shampoo/hydrating shampoo/deep cleansing shampoo matched with hair mask/conditioner/conditioner. My favourite brands are Kerastase, nakhair and Aveeno for deep cleansing. The John Frieda leave in conditioner/anti-frizz spray/ is fantastic!

  • I definitely think that each person needs to find what works for them! Don’t assume something that worked for your bestie will work for you.
I have a blow dryer which has a cold blast button for when I’ve finished my hair. It supposedly holds my hair in place, sets it and gives it more shine.

  • Finding the right shampoo is a big deal. I have tried so many brands of shampoo and there are only a handful that I can rely on to keep my hair feeling healthy, soft, and tangle free.

  • Thank you for sharing those article! Since having my daughter I have unfortunately neglected my hair and it’s really dry and damaged. These great tips will help me to get my hair feeling and looking healthy again! I didn’t know about putting an egg yolk on your hair! Ill have to try it

  • My hair is long but quite thin. I love to use a hair oil for that glossy look but I have found that not all hair oils are equal so its a matter of shopping around to find which one suits you best.
My hair tends to lack volume which is annoying

  • Go easy on blow drying too. I tend to dry around my scalp and leave the ends a bit damp to protect them from damage.

  • I need some of that anti frizz spray. For some reason, my grey hair are coming through super frizzy. They’re making me look super crazy lady. I’m also trying to reduce the build up caused by shampoo and conditioner and trying to extend the time between washes. So it’s quite disgusting at the moment

  • These are some great tips, I do most of these but can be so slack with the heat protection spray. I need to work on that as I tend to use hot tools when in a rush and fry the heck out of my hair which is not good for its health or smoothness

  • Really great tips here. I have found fabulous results from using Aesop Sage and Cedar Scalp Treatment. You massage it into the scalp, leave for 30mins, then wash and condition as usual. It gives my head a lovely tingle feeling on application, smells heavenly and my scalp feels better than ever. Still trying to find a heat spray that works well for me and doesn’t make my hair feel weighed down. I don’t like to wet my hair every day so I need to find a solution
