It’s something we hear from health experts all the time – we all need to drink more water. However, that’s easier said than done. If you have a busy life, juggle kids, forget to drink or just don’t like the taste of water, sooner or later you end up dry as a bone without even trying.

“Aside from glowing skin, boosted energy, mind clarity, weight loss and overall healthy bodily functions, drinking water also helps maintain good mental health,” says Paul Sprokkreeff from hydration brand waterdrop.

The company is on a mission to get people to drink more water by adding interest with its unique Microdrink cubes. The small cubes, which you add to your water bottle or glass, come in a range of flavours including pomegranate and goji berry, peach and ginger, mango and cactus fruit, blackcurrant and elderberry, and lime and green coffee. Each is full of vitamins and nutrients B6, Vitamin C and Folic Acid.

“Drinking enough water can help with preventing and managing anxiety symptoms, mood changes and depression,” Paul says. “Even being slightly dehydrated leaves us tense, moody and increased stress levels.”

Here are Paul’s top tips on how to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Carry a reusable water bottle to fill up and sip for ‘emotional support’

As far as TikTok trends and viral videos go one recent cultural phenomenon that supports the consumption of water is the “emotional support water bottle” trend. If you’ve ever been mindlessly scrolling through TikTok you may have seen the #emotionalsupportwaterbottle trend where creators showcase their reusable water bottles that get taken everywhere from the gym, in the car, to work, to bed and essentially use it as a third arm.

The concept of this common Millennial and Gen Z trend is that the bottles provide a sense of reliability and structure to our daily lives, not only supporting water intake but also inadvertently supporting mental health. In addition to this, by having a water bottle you constantly sip from and fill up, it minimises the use of single use plastic.

Add flavour to your water

This one is for those who simply don’t like the taste of water and struggle to consume it just by itself, often resorting to high-sugar drinks or caffeinated beverages, which dehydrate you more. Flavouring water naturally with vitamin filled and sugar free additives is the best way to help you drink more water without the loaded sugar and caffeine. Adding a spritz of something natural like lemon or mint is also a great way to jazz up plain water.

Set yourself a daily goal

Setting daily goals helps to structure our day and grow as individuals, by setting a small goal to drink two litres a day you are already half-way to achieving your goal. Physically writing down our daily goals every morning not only helps us to keep track of them but also allows us to hold ourselves accountable to accomplish them.

Whether you’re an active person pushing for three to four litres a day or just need the two, drinking more water should be a goal everyone should strive for. By integrating small memos during the day such as setting a reminder on your phone every hour to have a glass of water or keeping a reusable water bottle with you at all times, you will be smashing your goal in no time and reaping the benefits hydration brings.

Create set times of the day or moments to drink water

Consuming litres of water a day may seem like an impossible task, but it all comes down to making it a habit in your daily routine. Like brushing your teeth or making your bed, small mindless habits that you don’t need to think about are the best ways to making sure you drink enough water each day.

By introducing a small change like drinking one glass of water before brushing your teeth or having a drink bottle next to your bed every night, you’ll be able to stay hydrated without feeling like you have to try.

  • Theres always been that notion that it was recommended to drink 8 glasses of water per day. Now ive read recently that the eight cups includes water intake that you;d generally receive from food too! The recommendations and findings are constantly changing and i think just drinking is good – i definitely couldnt do too much

  • I am definitely one to struggle to drink enough water everyday. It’s definitely something i know i need to work on and do better as it’s something i preach to my kids! I think having daily reminders or goals would help me make it a habit with a set routine. !

  • I am terrible at drinking my recommended daily intake of water. There are some days when I only drink coffee, tea or soft drink. I have started drinking fruit flavoured teas as well as taking a refillable drink bottle with me to work & setting myself a daily challenge to drink the whole thing by the end of the day, but I still find I’m not drinking enough most days.

  • For me, staying hydrated is quite easy. In my family, we only drink water apart from tea or coffee. I don’t buy cordial or fizz. We basically carry bottles of water wherever we go, for drives in the car, eating at restaurants, picnics, shopping etc. I keep a bottle on my desk at work too. It’s a 700ml bottle and I strive to drink 3 before I go to bed at night.

  • I am happy enough to drink water, but I have to admit that I’d like a bit of flavour to it sometimes. Sadly I don’t think I’d like the flavour combinations listed above, because I’ve heard some good things about this type of product. Plenty of people enjoy the taste and find it helps them to drink more water.

  • Staying well hydrated can be quite simple, it’s just about creating that good habit. I always have a bottle of water on my desk at work. It’s a 1L so when it’s empty, I go and fill it a second time and make sure I drink all of that too. So long as you have a bottle with you and make yourself drink it, you will stay hydrated.

  • Water is all my family drink. We each have our own water bottle and take it everywhere even in restaurants. But to be honest, sometimes water can be a bit boring. Sometimes you feel like something with extra flavour. Great to know there are lots of products on the market which are natural and taste great, too. Now, I’m off to Google Waterdrop….

  • I’ve gone back to setting a goal for how much water I drink a day, at least 1.5 fills of my huge frank green water bottle. It’s helping having a goal set in mind going into the day. I was finding my skin and lips were getting more dry than usual, and I think it’s helping

  • Since reading this article I have noticed SO many people carrying around massive water bottles. Obviously it has the daily requirement of water in it and helps them keep track. I don’t know how they do it. I carry around my little bottle in my handbag and I always make sure it’s full when I go out so my bag is always heavy! I couldn’t imagine carrying a massive one around. I just refill it when it’s empty and that helps me keep track of my water intake. I don’t even drink from cups anymore because I like to do my bottle maths 🙂

  • I have a two litre bottle by the sink that I fill each morning. If I go out I fill my water bottle from it and I then know that I have kept track of it. I do get slack sometimes and just don’t feel like drinking it but for the main part I try to stick to it.

  • Thank you for the info and prompts in this artcile. I set my fitbit goal as stay hydrated late last night and I am 1.5L down and it is only 2pm today!

  • Great reminder! My hydration has defintiely dropped off this weekend with the cold snap. Probably the worst time with the dry winter winds. I put on a face mask last night because my skin was so dry but it did not occur to me that the problem likely started from me being dehydrated.

  • Im definitely not the best at drinking enough water on the daily but i do love the part where it says bring a bottle and make it like an emotional support bottle. Definitely having it more conveniently with me would help in my uptake of water. Its still something im working on!

  • I’m not one to get thirsty alot, so I need to make an effort to keep hydrated. For me, I find taking a small 250ml bottle of water in the car every time I leave the house does the job. With an average of four trips a day, that’s a litre done. I don’t exit the car until the bottle is empty! I also love my tea, coffee and soups which add to hydration.

  • I drink a lot of water whether I am at work where I always have a water bottle on my desk or at home where I try and drink often during the day. I usually just drink water for hydration but I exercise a lot outdoors and usually drink gatorade in summer after exercising.

  • I keep a two and half litre container of water with added lemon slices on my kitchen bench where it is visible and serves as a reminder to drink. I can just have a sip or drink a glass throughout the day and I make sure by the end of the day it’s all gone.

  • Omg! I’m finally trendy! I totally carry a water bottle with me everywhere and feel like it’s my support bottle! It’s the one ways I’ve taught myself to start drinking enough is to have it with me at all times and just regularly sip! Make sure to get a reusable bottle though, plastics can leach into water and you don’t need that in your body

  • I find drinking water easier to do at work as my big bottle of water is right next to me all day however weekends are a different story as I am always on the go. I love the idea of these drops to give water a bit of flavour and encourage more drinking.

  • I find it hard to drinks lots and lots of water. I try but the more I drink the more I need to go to the toilet. When my lemon and lime tree has lots of fruit I try and add some lemon or lime to my water. I find some days are better than others.

  • I like the sound of these water drops, especially because they also contain vitamins as well as flavouring.

  • I have always been a good water drinker. I can remember as a child standing at the kitchen sink with a glass and glugging down glasses of water from the tap.
I carry a bottle of iced water with me when I head off to work each day. I work on a school bus with special needs children so dont have access to water if I dont take my own,

  • I drink one cup of water before each cup of coffee or tea. I find it helps to get my water content in each day.

  • Ohhh these are so good! I am on some meds that make me prone to dehydration so I have to drink so much water which can be har don the go, these might solve that issue and they looks so cute and easy to transport too. Thanks for sharing these

  • I love the look of these waterdrop cubes. I’m really into flavoured lightly sparkling water currently and would love to have flavoured tap water. I find having a reusable water bottle I like and keeping it in the room I’m in/carrying it around really helps. Also keeping it filled with ice.
